Why Prose Architecture?
Our Story
Prose Architecture was built at the intersection of architecture and storytelling with the purpose of fostering connection and community.

We work with business owners, both large and small, to create the spaces in which you operate.
We craft and share your story with your clients — the shopper, the guest, the coworker, the patient, the coffee aficionado.
We are operational experts, with first hand experience in retail, hospitality, office, restaurant, and clinical design.
We are also ardent researchers and enthusiastic interviewers. If we don’t know something, we’ll learn it. If we have questions, we’ll ask them. And if something is way outside of our sphere of knowledge, we’ll tell you, and we’ll connect you with someone who’s better suited for your project.

How did we get here?

Prose Architecture is the next chapter in the story of our founder, Erica Spayd.

Erica grew up loving to tinker, build, and read.
In high school, she hung out at the Boston Public Library, worked in a bookstore, and was captivated by every construction site she passed by.

In college, she studied English and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. Nearing graduation without much direction, she decided to pursue a career in architecture.
During architecture school, Erica both worked as a carpenter and created t-shirt designs, which she sold on ebay to help with expenses.

Upon graduation, she went on to work for a retail architecture firm, where she built strong relationships with her clients. One of those clients liked working with her so much that they hired her, and she has worked in the corporate retail world ever since.

During her last decade in retail, she has iterated on and created designs to solve for various and evolving challenges facing the retailers for whom she has worked. She has learned the importance of both a highly operational space as well as the aesthetic design elements that allow connection between the customer and the brand.

Eager to bring this work, knowledge, and experience to business owners in her community, Erica established Prose Architecture, P.C. in 2023.

Erica is currently licensed to practice architecture in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Texas, and Virginia. She can apply for reciprocal licenses in other states as projects require.
